It is with sad hearts we wished Rev. LInda Hey a wonderful retirement on Sunday, July 20, 2025.  There were heartfelt words of praise and thanks for all she has done for us.  There was special music, Abby made a final appearance to give a children's message (for the young and young at heart), and Rev. Linda's family and friends were there to celebrate her final sermon.  The service was followed by neighboring where Rev. LInda got a chance to speak to everyone, there were lots of goodies to eat and a lovely cake.  We all wish Rev. Linda a wonderful retirement - we will never forget all that you have done for our "little white church" on Black Point Road.  God Speed!

The First Congregational Church will be hosting a free community lunch, The Neighbor's Table, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 in the church vestry.  Doors will open at 11:45 and the meal will be served at noon.  Reservations are required.  To save a seat, please sign up online at TheNeighborsTable.weebly.com, or call the church office at 207-883-2342.  Please leave your name, phone number and number of people attending.  

We have space for 50 people, so please let us know if you plan to come.  Walk-ups will be served if space permits.

The meal will be prepared by volunteers in the church kitchen.  The menu for September includes:  Beef Stew, Crusty Rolls with butter, homemade cookies or bars, watermelon and beverages.

The First Congregational Church of Scarborough was founded in 1728. We are associated with the United Church of Christ. We are seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant to support our church’s minister and be responsible for all clerical and administrative office functions

Responsibilities:

• Receive and file all incoming email and postal mail directed to the church office
• Answer inbound telephone calls and messages
• Greet and assist onsite guests
• Working with the minister, prepare documents such as certificates, bulletins, letters, etc.
• Draft correspondence and other formal documents
• Plan and schedule appointments and events coordinating with the church minister, other staff and committees
• Assemble monthly church newsletters and the church's annual report
• Maintain the primary church calendar of all events and rentals
• Maintain confidentiality of all matters related to the church office and this position
• Maintain a clean, orderly, welcoming, and professional workspace
• Develop and implement organized filing systems
• Orchestrate building and property rent requests and rent schedules including tracking of potential conflicts
• Maintain key church records such as mailing lists, contact information, committee membership, etc
• Collecting bi-weekly time reporting and submission of hours to the payroll provider
• Perform all other office tasks

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in office administration or other related fields
• H.S. Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to prioritize and multitask
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• ​Strong organizational skills
• Previous experience with PCs and office tools including Word, Excel, MS Publisher, Email/Outlook, and Mail lists/Mailing labels
• Can work independently and/or with others as needed
• Trustworthy and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Awareness of cyber security threats and how to take precautions

Schedule & Time Off:

15-20 hours per week, Monday-Thursday with optional Fridays

Personal/sick benefits: 5 paid sick/personal days per year

Vacation: 1 week after 6 months, 2 weeks afterwards pro-rated by pay period
