Youth Ministries Youth Christian Education Children of all ages are always welcomed at the First Congregational Church. Pastor Fred offers a Children’s Sermon near the beginning of the worship service. Children can remain in church or attend the Sunday School Programs held in the Parish Hall. We also offer nursery services for our younger children (ages 0-3) at the Parish Hall. Our Sunday School programs are led by fabulous member volunteers who offer interactive, age-based lessons with song and craft activities. Our goal is to offer the teachings of Jesus Christ and God while reinforcing the values of sharing, giving back and respect. Throughout the year they will be asked to participate in service projects, learn new songs and relevant Bible passages and be encouraged to participate in our special holiday services. Confirmation Classes – We offer confirmation classes for youth who have been baptized and wish to confirm their baptism vows. Confirmation consists of a series of classes about the Christian faith that are taught by the pastor and is geared to young people ages 13-16. Senior Recognition – Each year the high school graduates who are associated with the First Congregational Church of Scarborough are celebrated. Our church members are very proud of them. The Seniors are acknowledged for their accomplishments and wished all the best with our thoughts and prayers as they move on to their next phase of work and education. Baptism - When a child is baptized, one or both parents (along with one or more godparents if there are godparents) make baptismal promises on behalf of that child. Those adults assume certain responsibilities for the Christian nurture of the baptized child and promise to provide a supportive Christian environment in which the child may grow in awareness and understanding about the meaning of life in Christ. |
